Health and Safety policy
Pimlico Movers Health and Safety Policy
Pimlico Movers is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for our employees, contractors, customers, visitors and members of the public who may be affected by our activities. This Health and Safety Policy sets out our approach to managing risks associated with removals, packing, loading, transport, unloading and storage of goods.
Our Health and Safety Objectives
Our primary objectives are to prevent injury, protect health and safeguard property during all moving and related operations. We aim to maintain high standards of safety performance by identifying hazards, assessing risks and implementing effective controls. Health and safety is an integral part of how we plan and deliver removal services.
Management Responsibilities
Senior management at Pimlico Movers has overall responsibility for health and safety within the company. This includes ensuring that adequate resources are provided to implement this policy, that suitable training is made available, and that safe systems of work are developed, documented and followed.
Managers and supervisors are responsible for day-to-day implementation of this policy. They must ensure that staff understand their duties, follow safe working procedures, use equipment correctly and report any concerns or incidents promptly. Management will regularly review health and safety performance and will act on findings to achieve continuous improvement.
Employee Responsibilities
Every employee has a duty to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions or omissions. All staff must:
Follow all safe working procedures, instructions and training provided by Pimlico Movers.
Use vehicles, tools, lifting equipment and personal protective equipment correctly and report defects immediately.
Cooperate with management in fulfilling health and safety obligations, including attending training and briefings.
Report accidents, near misses, unsafe conditions and health concerns without delay so that corrective action can be taken.
Refrain from horseplay, misuse of equipment or any behaviour that could put themselves or others at risk.
Risk Assessment and Safe Systems of Work
Pimlico Movers will assess the risks associated with our operations and put in place proportionate control measures. Risk assessments will cover, as appropriate, manual handling, vehicle movements, loading and unloading, working in and around customers homes and premises, the use of lifting aids and any other significant hazards.
Findings from risk assessments will be used to develop safe systems of work and method statements for typical removal activities. These procedures will be communicated to staff through training, briefings and supervision, and will be periodically reviewed and updated in light of experience and changes in operations.
Manual Handling and Use of Equipment
Manual handling is a significant element of removal work. Pimlico Movers will minimise the risk of injury from lifting and carrying by careful planning of jobs, providing appropriate equipment and training staff in correct techniques. Heavy or awkward items will be moved using suitable aids such as trolleys, dollies, sliders, lifting straps or team lifts, where reasonably practicable.
Only trained and authorised personnel may operate specialist equipment such as tail lifts or mechanical handling devices. All equipment will be maintained in a safe condition and checked regularly. Staff must not exceed recommended load limits or use any item of equipment that they suspect to be faulty or unsafe.
Vehicle Safety and Driving Standards
Safe operation of vehicles is essential to protect our drivers, passengers, customers and other road users. Pimlico Movers will ensure that company vehicles are appropriate for the tasks undertaken, regularly inspected and maintained. Pre-use checks will be carried out by drivers, and any defects will be reported immediately.
Drivers must hold the correct licence for the vehicle, comply with road traffic laws and company driving policies, and drive in a considerate and defensive manner. Loads will be planned and secured to prevent shifting during transit. Routes will be chosen, where possible, to minimise risk in residential streets and around customer properties.
Working in Customers Homes and Premises
Our teams often work in domestic and commercial environments where members of the public may be present. Pimlico Movers will take all reasonable steps to protect customers and others from risk. This includes careful planning of access routes, safe stacking of items, controlling trip and slip hazards and maintaining clear communication with occupants.
Our staff will treat customer property with care and respect, and will follow any agreed site rules. If site-specific hazards are identified, they will be discussed with the customer and managed through suitable control measures before work proceeds.
Personal Protective Equipment and Welfare
Where risks cannot be adequately controlled by other means, Pimlico Movers will provide appropriate personal protective equipment such as safety footwear, gloves, high-visibility clothing and any other relevant items. Employees must use this equipment as instructed and look after it properly.
We will take reasonable steps to ensure that welfare needs are met during work, including provision for rest breaks, hydration and access to facilities where practicable. We recognise the importance of both physical and mental wellbeing and will respond to health concerns raised by staff.
Training, Information and Supervision
Pimlico Movers will provide suitable and sufficient health and safety training relevant to each role, including induction training for new starters and refresher training when needed. This may cover manual handling, safe driving, equipment use, hazard awareness and emergency procedures.
Information about risks and control measures will be communicated clearly to staff. Supervisors will monitor working practices on site and provide guidance, coaching and correction where required to maintain safe standards.
Accident Reporting, Investigation and Review
All accidents, injuries, work-related ill health and near misses must be reported in line with company procedures. Pimlico Movers will investigate incidents to identify root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
This Health and Safety Policy will be reviewed periodically and whenever there are significant changes to our operations, applicable guidance or industry best practice. Updates will be communicated to all staff so that everyone understands their responsibilities and our shared commitment to safe removals.
